Three Books of the Week

Get Out of My Bath!

by Britta Tekentrup

This is a perfect book for just before bath time – especially if you have a reluctant bather.  Ellie the elephant has just gotten into her bath when other animals start to join her.  A crocodile, a tiger, a flamingo and a mouse.  Ellie is not happy!  How can she get these animals out of her bath?

What did we learn?

That baths are fun.

Why I like it:

Teckentrup is fantastic at interactive books.  We get to tilt the book right and left to make waves, it has texture, and the reader tries to help Ellie rid her bath of the unwanted animals.

Hugless Douglas

by David Melling

Douglas wakes up from a long sleep and needs a hug. He ventures out of his cave in search of a hug but finds it quite difficult. Thanks to a rabbit he yanks out of a burrow, he finds the best hug a young bear can get: from his mummy.

What did we learn:

Perservearance and that moms are the best.

Why I like it:
George loves it and when he says ‘hugless douglas’ it’s pretty cute. Plus I always get a massive hug at the end of it – pretty good reason to love this book I think!

Windows

by Julia Denos and E.B. Goodale

I love this book!  Because I love to do exactly what this little boy and his dog do:  take a walk at dusk and see into other people’s homes.  Although when I write that last sentence I sound like a creep.

In this book, the little boy takes his white dog (not unlike my white dog Mr. Mop) for a walk at twilight – just as the sky is getting dark and the glow of people’s homes are bright and lovely.  He sees his neighbours cooking dinner, giving hugs, and learning how to dance. Some windows are empty waiting for a story to be made up.

What did we learn?

That spying is okay.

Why I like it

When I look at these dreamy illustrations it completely reminds me of our time in Brooklyn and my walks with my dogs. I love this time of the evening when I could spy into all the brownstones glowing warm yellow light.

We all do this right?

Hope you enjoy these picks!  And as always,

Happy Reading,

Sarah
